Five Things Friday: Inspiration & Guest Author at No Reason Whatsoever

It's funny how this worked out: last week I wanted to make Five Things Friday about Inspiration. Yet when Cathryn Louis had asked me to be a guest at her No Reason Whatsoever blog, I didn't have a clue what I'd write about. I didn't even think about Inspiration. But what made the post happen was exactly that: I found inspiration in my mountain cove, in nature, as I many many times do.

The "Inspiration's Mystery" guest post begins: Every year the butterflies come. The very first time I saw them, I thought something was wrong, that somehow the butterflies were disoriented and ended up at the bottom of our gravel driveway by accident. But then, the next year they were back, and the next, and next. From what I can tell, they are Pipevine Swallowtails, a butterfly that frequents the mountains. Whatever kind they are is not as important to me as the butterfly’s behavior and beauty and mystery . . . to read the rest, click GUEST AUTHOR POST CONT'D

Five Things I find Inspiration from - (and oh there are so many more!:

What is hidden in the hollows of a tree

the secret place I go where there are ancient rock's nooks & crannies & hollows

My tucked in little log house in the cove

My son & granddaughter (this was when she was itty bitty)

My mountain view

What brings you inspiration?

Love it, Kathryn! I'll be briefer than usual, as so many match up. My view. My walks in the woods. The dunes, and that big ole lake, and her moods. My family, especially those who've passed before me. Last, and most importantly, my wonderful, beautiful wife, who is my 'ideal reader.' She's the one I picture reading while I write - trying to make her laugh, read-on, or to be moved. Now that's inspirational! Headed over to your guest blog next. Great post. Love Fridays!

Kat, your mountain view is truly a slice of heaven. Your granddaughter is precious...gosh, it seems like yesterday you were on the trek to visit...what inspires me? just sittin' and lookin' at the world go by. Have a great weekend.

I have to tell you that you have inspired me to begin considering my writing as an asset which can be sold, that the Sagas, Memories and historical studies running through both of these are worthy of an audience that would consider paying to read them. Though your background was in the Mountains and mine in the Heartlands, we shared tumultuous childhoods, time in Loosianna and a drive to write down our thoughts, prayers, and family trials and celebrations. Keep up the good work fellow writer.

Oh I like those ruins.
I’d probably break my neck trying to get to the top of them.
I see how you can get lost and find yourself among your surroundings.

What inspires me?
Hmmm well there’s…. no I can’t say that.
Ummm oh, no I can’t say that here either.
Yeah, yeah I got a fowl dirty filthy mind but that’s what happens when you don’t always wash behind your ears as a kid.

People inspire me.
The vast differences that they all posses yet they all strive to achieve the same goal in their own way.
8 billion paths, one road.

Aw! I love those inspirations! (Especially your cute granddaughter!) My inspiration comes from my family, my wild kids and my silly husband. It's a great life!

Wow, is that the view from your house? That's my dream...to live somewhere scenic and be able to write every day looking out my beautiful window at it.

Wow, no wonder you're inspired!

Ok, my inspiration comes from my kids. And I love hiking in our local trails. When I'm stuck, it's the perfect solution.

Things I enjoy lead me to share them with readers. The massive trains, dusty back roads, tiny flower tucked in the grasses, birds fluttering about and man's intrusion, his history.

It takes a fire to light a candle..........

You chose a great place to live in, K.
I find similar things where I live, so much so that I'm hardly bored or searching for anything else. Yes, nature is most inspiring.

You have so much inspiration all around you! Love the pic of your beautiful log house. I'm inspired by nature, too, but mostly by music. Have a lovely weekend, cher!

People, the great outdoors, music, riding my bike, hiking, beauty and even adversity can inspire me.. (:

I love nature, too as inspiration. But people-watching is a pasttime that creates my characters. :P

A beautiful post, Kat. I'm inspired by similar things - most of them connected to the nature I'm so fortunate to live in the midst of. Always birds, the wind, a sunny day, the river, and the people who share it all with me.

What a lovely post. Does that hollow tree contain a squirrel's cache? Nothing more precious than that, at least to the squirrel.

You have a beautiful place and a beautiful family, all of which must give you daily doses of inspiration. For me, it's pretty random: small acts that surprise me, long walks in poor weather...those are things that lead me to think, which I guess is almost the same as being inspired.

I believe I'm slightly jealous of your mountain view, you lucky thing. :)

I can see where that mountain view provides much inspiration. However, I might spend so much time looking at it, I wouldn't get anything done. Water seems to do that for me.
