LitChat & I was a weird kid, were you?

Today I'll be the Guest Moderator at Litchat (@litchat on twitter with hashtag #litchat, and for this week, hashtag #tkam)and @katmagendie Celebrating 50 years of To Kill A Mockingbird. I'd love to have you join us - if you do so via tweetchat, it's easy to stay in the chat and see what's going on. It's from 4-5 EST today (and every M, W, F, from 4-5).

I was thinking about the weird things some of us may have done or said as kids (or all of us?) I guess I was a pretty weird kid- no weirder than some, maybe weirder than others . . .ha!
But, when I was a young teen, one day my friend was talking about how she had had an imaginary friend. I thought, "imaginary friend?" I'd not remembered ever having one of those. I had an imaginary Stallion - I'd ride my bike and pretend it was my trusty steed. But an imaginary friend? huhn. I decided I wanted one of those. So I "made one up," and thus began a glorious friendship to span, um, a couple of days . . . maybe it would have spanned a couple of more days, but my Real Live Friend said, "Um, you're a little old to have an imaginary friend - it's weird." Oops. Oh. Okay. I said, "Well, gee, okay." Teehee. So, Imaginary Friend disappeared. That's okay, it was always nagging at me that it had to keep up all the conversation and was a much better friend than I was . . . haw!

I thought about that day today and laughed. I mean, to have an imaginary friend when you're little is Cute; to have one when you are 13 or so probably seems a bit InSane.  I did a lot of weird kid things, but that's one I remember this morning.

So, you tell me: What kind of weird kid thing did you do that you look back on and think, "Geez, I did that? Lawd."

Well, let's see. When I was a kid I would come home from the movies and re-enact the whole story - with me in the lead!

I would have my younger sister and all the other kids in the neighborhood play the other roles. I would get so caught up in the make-believe that my sister would eventually cry because I scared her with my intensity.

Imaginary friend? Why I have that now and...oops. No, I don't have an imaginary friend. I AM an adult after all. *tells her imaginary friend to hide*

Aren't your characters imaginary friends? Are are they too "real" for that? :-)

When I was a kid, my sister and I would go outside to play softball together. We'd never get around to playing because I, with my pen and notebook, had to create all the team names, the players, their batting orders, and their positions. By the time it was time to play, we had to go inside.

(It's a miracle that my sister still loves me today.)

We also had an imaginary older brother named Tom. I felt kind of bad one day several years ago when we let that slip in a conversation with our Real Live Older Brother. Particularly since "Tom" had been the high-school football star whereas our Real Live Older Brother was merely secretary of the Beta Club.

Oops ... that second sentence is supposed to begin "Or are ..."

"Are are" ... sounds like I'm gearing up for "Talk Like a Pirate Day"!

Too many to count. My imagination roamed wild and still does. I wanted to be Cinderella so I could have mice friends but never made it to the prince part. They were fun for a few days..... :O)

As if you don't have imaginary friends right NOW! LOL. And good real ones too.

Can't wait for #litchat #tkam #katmagendieisweirdbutcool

I was a weird kid. I love weird music, weird art, weird books. I just told my friends I was creative. =)

I loved my imaginary friends. I can't think of anything weird that happened but I do remember my 'friends'.

Do I want to admit this out in the real world? Will they come for me in the white coats? LOL!

I had imaginary animal friends.I would have life discussions while watching birds, squirrels and other assorted wild life.

I would climb birch trees (yes I still love to climb trees but at this age better I stay on the ground!)and because they bend and bounce, I would mount them like a horse and ride up to toward the sky and down to the ground and back.

What a great story. I had an imaginary horse, too. :-)

But then I also had a relationship with my Barbie that was close to imaginary friend status - until I was 14 or so.

I played waitress when I was 12 and served imaginary meals to my stuffed animals. My mom and dad are the only ones who know that, well until now, that is.

Yes, I think we're all a bit loopy. I'm thinking about the times I stuck things in the big space between my two front teeth. Weird. ;)

I am ashamed to admit this, but as a 5 and 6 year old I'd be walked home from school by my Great, maiden Aunt Doll ( who always pushed an enormous pram for the shopping). On arriving home she would then make me a bottle (ie baby's) with a teat to drink my tea from. Drove my mother mad, she would sling it out the door and the next day, Aunt Doll had bought me a new one. Mum broke her in the end. I wailed for days.

Angie saying you still have imaginary friends is cracking me up! And my entire youth was one weird thing after another. Not a single normal day.

I imagined I had a horse and could ride away into the forest for days. Then when I came back I would be bringing my friends, the wild lion, monkey, tiger, and other wild horses with me. Argh, that's really crazy. :P

I was a weird little kid and I'm still weird as an adult. Funny how we don't outgrow some things.

But what is funny to me is witnessing my own daughter grow into her own weirdness. She's as goofy (or possibly goofier) than I was at age 9.

It makes me wonder if "weirdness" is a gene that gets passed on through the generations.

I think I was 13 or 14. I still had a doll and would put in in my dresser drawer to sleep until I got home. One day I couldn't find it. My mother said you are too old to play with dolls. I went outside and pulled my doll out of the trash can. This was no easy feat we lived in an apartment. About 8 years ago my friend gave me a Barbie. I still have it and yes she sleeps while I go to work. :) So I am still a little weird. LOL

My mom made me these cute white pants - so I go to school all proud of these white pants -- it wasn't until way later someone said "I can see your panties ..hahahahahahahahahh ..hahahahaahhhaha panties panties ahhhahahhh!" - sure enough, stupid me didn't know any better because i was STOOOPID - I'd worn these colorful swirly undies under the white pants - laughing! so embarrassing! But you'd think I'd've known better! sheesh!

Too funny! I don't know what I did that was weird but I know I was told alot that I was weird, mostly over things I said. *grin*

So if we ever meet, and I say something weird, just know it's not the first time. LOL

I always laugh at the things I did as I kid. For instance, I used to watch The Littles when I was between about 4 and 7 years old. Then when I was in my room I would sit in front of the vent and say, "I know you're in there, you can come out. I won't hurt you." LOL!

Thanks so much for helping out with my Blogsplash!

Yes, I was a weird kid. I used to play for hours in the woods behind my house, diverting the stream. Weird.
