With a book book here and a book book there!

teeheeheee: this made me laugh.
I had to go to Asheville today, so I am not posting a regular post today.
I went by Malaprops first, to thank them for sponsoring my signing to be this month (on 8/15), and then I went by Accent on Books, also in Asheville to thank him for stocking Tender Graces on his shelves: little did I know that not only did the Accent on Books owner stock TG - he put TG at the front of the store, on a nice table, with the words: Summer Reading! I was so happy and grateful, and I told him so. My book was nestled beside Joan Medlicott and Ron Rash - what good company I am in!

I will leave you with this:
When you walk into a bookstore, where do you first go? Do you have a plan, or do you just "wing it?" Do you frequent Indie booksellers, or whatever is closer? Or whatever has your favorite latte? Do you have a budget in mind, or just do what feels good at the moment. Tell me: what is your bookstore style! *smiling*Mine is to go in and just look around, browse. I may have something in particular in mind, but, more often than not, I just want to be around books and to hold them and look at them.

Books are the one thing I am addicted to. I normally glance at what is in the windows then I look at what is stacked on the tables. This is if I don't have a particular book in mind. Cover art often draws me in and other than an occasional biography I am really looking for a good story. I normally read the first page if that draws me in it is a sale.
I haven't brought books in a while because of budget, but when that was not a concern I would leave the store with more than one, joyfully trying to decide which one to eat up first. Love a new book.

Whatever my intentions on entering a bookshop, I find that I go instantly into wandering mode. I look for a sign reading "poetry" and start off in that general direction, but before I know it, I'm standing in the Literature aisle or noticing that one of my favourite mystery authors has a new book out. I do eventually get to Poetry, but the journey tends to be a long one. I prefer indy shops on principle, (and love used book shops best of all), but Chapters - our Borders equivalent - draws me in, too. Maybe its the Starbucks franchise.

I don't go to my indie much except for signings at which I purchase the authors book or if I find something special coming out I don't want to forget about I call Diane and get her to order it.I do most of my buying from Amazon proper and usally do two at a time to get free shipping!Book stores to me are like Casinos to gambler addicts! HA!

Gosh, it's been so long since I've been in an honest-to-goodness book store. But I like to wing it, and gander at everything.

First thing I do is go to the display table that usually has the new releases... then I wander around, most likely ending up at women's fiction or romantic comedy. But in actuality, I browse it all, and have to touch everything. I have a love affair with new books and bookstores. I used to own a bookstore, and I can't get it out of my blood!

There is a new Used Book store that just opened up last week here, and I'm dying to get over there.

Love the cartoon - hubbie and I are sci-fi people.

The first thing I do in the bookstore is look at the new fiction trade paperbacks, followed by new/recommended hard cover. If i don't find anything there then I do the fiction section (starting at the As) and scan the titles/author name to see if something jogs my memory of a book I wanted to read - occassionally, I remember to take a list.

I always go to the childrens' section at the back because I teach and I have grandchildren. Next, I find any books that I might have on my "need to read" list. After, I check out "what's new", "specials" gifty stuff, then periodicals. My very next search in the bookstore is for Barry..... now where did he get to? When I find him we pay for our purchases and off we go. I can't believe I have a bookstore routine. Who knew? =D

Before kids I headed straight for the Christian aisle and thumbed through as many romances as I could find. :-) Rarely did I even look at other books. Also, I never went to small stores, only the big chains because they had better sales (I thought).

Where do i go first? I guess i start with the front tables and work my way back . I could spend HOURS in a bookstore... My husband wonders why? LOL!!
Congrats on the success of your book, it must be so exciting to see it out in front! So hows the next one coming along?? ;0)

as an star treck wanna be I love the cartoon. in book stores I go straight to the 'discount' books first. I can read 2 books a week and at $25.00 for the new editions/hard bound is a budget breaker, so I read paperbacks and discounted.

I go for the new releases first, then just wander. I like to touch. (just the books - I promise)

Gosh, I totally LOVE bookstores and they are a very dangerous place for me to be. I can walk out with over $200 in books in my arms. I love old books, new books, text books, any kind of book interests me. I always thought it would be great fun to own a bookstore.

I live in a small town and I ALWAYS patronize my local independent book store even when it means waiting longer and paying more. It took them three weeks to get "Tender Graces" for me, but get it they did.

Half the time I go to the bookstore with a specific book in mind, having heard a review on NPR, read one on a Web site or got an email from a friend. Sometimes I look at what the various book clubs are reading. Other times I walk in, just looking for a book. The folks at Highland Books know me well enough to make recommendations, or to ask my opinion of a recent purchase. You just can't get that from Borders, Barnes & Noble, and certainly not from Amazon. My bookstore doesn't have a coffee bar...just good company and good books. I really need an independent bookstore like others need a good shoe store.
