Friday Shoot Out: Aged and Weathered

my old hand looks capable . . .

the old white faced coon
our weathered Smoky mountains: some of the oldest in the world

what have these trees seen and endured?
and the old weather-beaten wasp nest hangs on through the moutain storms

spiders build with no worries about tomorrow, or even five minutes from then, they rebuild and rebuild, never giving up . . . the wind at Lake Junalusa has battered this web, the web on my porch is battered by wind and bird's wings flying by and rain

Pauline chose the assignment for this Friday: Aged and Weathered

I take a break from cleaning up our manuscripts to post this Friday's shoot out and will be back on Monday with more manuscript posts.
Today is September 11 - this date means many things to many people. What does it mean to you? Has time tempered and softened the edges? Or is it as sharp as ever? or somewhere in between?
Namaste.

I love seeing the pics. September 11th is still a sad day to me. It just was so profound. I did write about my memory of the day on my blog today. I was living and working in Washington DC at the time. I just don't want anyone to forget how horrible it was for everyone. I am listening to what I think are jets overhead. It would not surprise me. On the east coast where I am the military is dilligent on this day. It is much harder to forget or want to.

These photos are amazing in the same strange way that a close-up of a hand holding a steering wheel is. Unbelievable quality. Many thanks.

Greetings from London.

I'd say somewhere in between. The sadness over this day has diminished some over the years, but it is still there.

Great pictures - I love the one of your hand...very pretty in black and white.

In regards to today...I think it's crazy how amazingly vivid my memories are of that day. I will never forget where I was when it happened - the sights, the smells, everything around me at that moment. It's been eight years, but I remember it like it was yesterday. Time hasn't numbed those memories yet.

love the shot of the mountains. great choices for this weeks theme.

I too will always remember this date. a little numbing with the memories. hard to believe it is eight years ago.

I love the pictures.

September 11th is my Mother's birthday. She and others find it difficult to celebrate the day as the sadness of those events still lingers.

I love your photos of the trees, I think I have a love affair going with trees, even as a youngster I used to doodle in tree branches. good shoot out.

Love the pictures--the trees are incredible!

I woke up thinking about 9/11. This day will always hold sad memories.

Lovely pictures. Interesting thoughts. Shock goes away. Memories don't.

Thanks Kathryn. The web was my favorite shot, yet.

I like the shot of the wasp nest in the tree...wouldn't want to meet the wasps, though!

The memories of 9/11 are still vivid. Where I was the moment I heard...the first patient who walked in to our office and the updates we shared...the disbelief/shock/nausea of it all.
I like how Sheila put it: "Shock goes away. Memories do not." Very well said, Sheila.

I commented on your spider web on the Friday shootout site. I love spider webs, but my camera doesn't pick up the web as well as you.

Cheers,

Ann

Those hands have written some very touching words. A perfect way to begin the shoot! I love the old mountains full of memories and the old trees, but that raccoon looks like he's up to no good. Thank you for the mountain visit.
